About the Competition

Original ideas may be presented in the manner you deem most effective. Some suggestions are:

Artwork/Illustration
Building design (floor plan, elevations)
Storyboards
Developed story treatment
Models
Computer Graphics
Video

For further information, questions can be directed to the Imagi-Nations Representative at: [email protected]. Along with your idea, please include the entry form, a one page overview of your idea, a resume for each team member, and a list of the contents of your submission. Your concept should demonstrate fun, originality and innovation. Your idea and/or submission should be themed and tell a story. Keep in mind that Disney is the leader in family entertainment, and that Imagineering tells stories through environments. You may create your own characters or use our existing characters for your entry. All entries must be received by Walt Disney Imagineering by January 31, 2005.

A panel of Imagineers will select three finalists in both the individual and team categories. Honorable mentions will also be awarded in each category.

Please note the following parameters:

Visual art must be presented on no more than three 30" x 40" boards.

Story treatments must be no longer than fifteen pages. (Double-spaced)

Models must be no larger than 18" x 24". (Photo only for Preliminary Competition)

Videos or CDs must be no longer than three minutes.

Finalists

Finalists in both the individual and team categories will be brought to Walt Disney Imagineering in Glendale, California, in early June 2005, where they will formally present their idea to a panel of Walt Disney Imagineering judges.

Each Finalist will also have the opportunity to interview for internship openings for Imagineering and The Walt Disney Company.

Scholarships will be awarded to individuals and teams in their respective categories (each member of a team will receive the scholarship):

1st Place - $2,000
2nd Place - $1,500
3rd Place - $1,000

Guidelines

1. All participants must be either a current member of one of the participating associations, or majoring in one of the listed university majors.

2. All participants must be full-time students, junior or senior undergraduate level in college (as of June 2, 2005). Teams must consist of at least two but no more than four students.

3. Previous finalists in the Imagi-Nations Design Competition who have presented their entry at Walt Disney Imagineering are not eligible to participate.

4. Submitted ideas must be original, and solely the work of the team members or the individual, and only one entry per team or individual will be accepted.

5. Entries will be accepted beginning January 1, 2005. All entries must be received (not postmarked) by January 31, 2005.

6. Judging will be based on, but not limited to, the following:

  • Creativity/Originality
  • Illustration/Artwork
  • Use of Technology
  • Guest Experience/
    Entertertainment Value
  • Quality of Presentation

7. Entries become the sole property of Walt Disney Imagineering and will not be returned. All rights to use and/or display these ideas will be retained by Walt Disney Imagineering.

8. Finalists will be notified by March 2005. At a later date, finalists will be invited to Walt Disney Imagineering to present their ideas.

9. Walt Disney Imagineering reserves the right not to bestow an award or grant, and disqualify an entry.
