Q: What is the Imagi-Nations Competition? |
A: Imagi-Nations is a university design competition created and sponsored by Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) in order to promote diversity. The competition enables students to showcase their talents and gain practical knowledge in design, with the opportunity to earn scholarship money and internships. |
Q: What is an Imagineer? |
A: Imagineering has become a purely Disney word. The name combines imagination with engineering to describe both what we do and who we are. Imagineers are responsible for the creation and expansion of all elements at the Disney theme parks and resorts. Every day, Imagineers bring art and science together to turn fantasy into reality and dreams into magic. |
Q: What disciplines work at Imagineering? |
A: More than 140 disciplines exist at Imagineering including: artists, architects, engineers, writers, machinists, landscape designers, model makers, sound technicians, carpenters, producers, accountants, filmmakers, schedulers, estimators and more. |
Q: Is there someplace I can learn more about Walt Disney Imagineering? |

Q: When is the competition held? |
A: Finalists will be notified in March and are invited to WDI shortly after that to present their ideas to a panel of judges. |
Q: Are there internships available through this competition? |
A: Each finalist will have the opportunity to interview for internship openings at Imagineering and The Walt Disney Company. |
Q: What if I am not a member of one of the associations, can I still enter? |
A: To enter, you must be a member of one of these associations: American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), Mexican American Engineers and Scientists (MAES), National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), Society of Women Engineers (SWE) or be a university student majoring in one of the following: fine art, digital arts, theatrical design / production, and creative writing. |
Q: There is not a chapter of AISES at my university, or I would join. Can I enter anyway? |
A: Yes if you join AISES. If AISES or one of the other associations you would join does not have a chapter on your university campus you can join nationally. Application information is available at the association websites:

Q: Does it cost me anything to enter? |
A: No it does not cost anything to enter the competition and Walt Disney Imagineering covers the shipping cost of your entry. |
Q: I feel that my art skills are not good enough, can I have someone else create my model, images, or other props for my entry? |
A: No, all submitted media and ideas must be original and be the product of the individual or team member. |
Q: Do I have to submit a college transcript with my entry? |
A: No, however you must submit a resume. |
Q: Other than myself, Im not clear on who else needs to sign my entry form? |
A: In addition to yours and your teamates' (if appliciable) signatures, you must include one of the following signatures:
1. If you are a member of one of the associations and there is a chapter on your campus, then one of the chapter officers needs to sign your entry.
2. If you are a member of one of the associations and there is not a chapter on your campus, then one of the following association representatives needs to sign your entry.

Q: I was an Imagi-Nations finalist before, can I enter again? |
A: No, because of the unique opportunity that this contest offers, each student is permitted only one entry during the course of their academic career. |
Q: How long after I enter will I know if Im a finalist? |
A: Finalists will be notified no later than March 26, 2005. |
Q: I sent my entry in, but I have not received anything yet. What can I do? |
A: You may call (818) 544-7336 to confirm receipt, however you will not know you are a finalist until March 26, 2005. |
Q: If I am selected as a finalist, where would the final presentations be? |
A: You will be provided transportation to Walt Disney Imagineering in Glendale, California, where you will give your final presentation before a panel of judges. |
Q: Once finalists have presented their ideas to WDI, what is the next step? |
A: The judges will select a winner for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in both the team and individual categories and they will receive scholarship money and have the opportunity to interview for an internship opening at Walt Disney Imagineering or other business units at the Walt Disney Company. |
