Role Descriptions

While in the Disney CareerStart Program, participants will take part in the Disney show, making magic for our Guests and taking a lead role in learning what it takes to be successful in a Fortune 100 company.

Participants might be working in one of our theme parks, including Disneyland® Park or Disney’s California Adventure® Park. Or, they might perform a role in one of our hotels or the Downtown Disney® District.

The following roles are available at the Disneyland® Resort as part of the Disney CareerStart Program. The descriptions listed below provide an overview of the responsibilities included in each role. It is important to note that each role may include, but is not limited to, the descriptions below.

All roles may include prolonged exposure to outside elements, including heat and humidity, cold temperatures, and wet conditions.

Attractions

Attractions Cast Members are responsible for operating attractions and providing a safe and enjoyable experience for the Disneyland Resort Guests and Cast. Multi-tasking is required to be alert of one's surroundings, dispatch ride vehicles, safely load and unload Guests, provide direction to evacuate rides, give memorized spiels to large groups, solve problems quickly, answer questions and be responsive to special requests. Cast Members also have high degree of Guest interaction when working parade and Entertainment Guest Control. Physical demands include standing and walking for long periods of time, constant hand use and repetitive wrist movement.

Bell Services

Bell Services Cast Members are responsible for the storage, transport and care of Guest luggage and other property. These individuals interact constantly with Guests by answering questions and providing directions, event information and other services. This role involves heavy phone answering and requires basic computer skills. Cast Members may be required to lift bags weighing up to 75 lbs. into Guest vehicles. In addition, this role involves constant walking/standing, constant pushing/pulling/lifting, frequent bending/twisting/kneeling and working outdoors in sunlight and/or inclement weather.

Custodial

Custodial Cast Members have the opportunity to work in a variety of locations. Responsibilities require working both indoors and outdoors. Daily responsibilities include picking up debris, emptying trashcans, cleaning restrooms, sweeping and general area cleaning. Strong communication skills are required for a high volume of Guest and Cast interaction. This position also includes constant walking, standing, pulling/pushing, repetitive sweeping motion and lifting trash can liners that may weigh 30-50 lbs.

Custodial Busser

The Custodial Busser role involves working in one of the following positions: Busser and/or Steward (Cast Members must be willing to work in both of these positions). They are responsible for greeting and interacting with our Guests in a positive and friendly manner, bussing tables, disposing of trash, maintaining the cleanliness of all restaurant areas and self-service beverage stations, transporting trays and dishes to the dish room and washing dishes. The position also includes constantly standing, frequent walking and pushing/pulling and lifting.

Disney Desk Representative

Disney Desk Cast Member responsibilities include providing excellent Guest Service, having a detailed level of knowledge about the Disneyland Resort and its ticket options, following cash handling procedures, using highly technical computer systems with a significant amount of memorization required, making reservations for Guests as needed and managing a daily ticket inventory. This position requires working independently and remotely at each Disney Desk location at our Good Neighbor hotels, Airports, Shopping Centers and the Disneyland Resort Welcome center. There will be constant standing and walking for up to eight hours.

Food & Beverage Host (Hotel Foods)

The Food & Beverage Host role involves escorting Guests to their tables in a specialty restaurant, making priority seating arrangements for restaurants across the resort, quoting accurate times based on dining room status and staffing levels, checking Guests into the restaurant and gathering Guest information on special events and celebrations. They may also serve in a cashier capacity, including taking the Guests' orders, assembling the Guests' orders and receiving money for payment. This role involves constant walking/standing, frequent lifting up to 25 lbs and working with cleaning chemicals.

Food Cart Cashier

The Food Cart Cashier role involves selling product outdoors on wagons while constantly interacting with our Guests. Responsibilities include strong cash handling with or without a cash register, working independently and preparing and delivering food and merchandise products. Role requires constantly walking or standing, pushing/pulling, lifting inventory and frequently bending/twisting/kneeling.

Food Prep

Food Prep Cast Members' duties include preparing, washing and cooking items such as appetizers, salads, pasta, waffles, sandwiches, vegetables and hamburgers. They may also be assigned as an attendant at a carving station. They are responsible for ensuring food is cooked to proper standards, cleaning kitchen equipment, practicing proper sanitation procedures and practicing all required HACCP procedures. This role requires constant standing, frequent walking, pushing/pulling, lifting, bending, twisting and kneeling, as well as working with cleaning supplies. Latex gloves are required when working with food products.

Food Service Worker

The Food Service Worker role involves working in one of the following positions: Dish-up/Presenter, Greeter, Runner, Food Preparation and Drink/Beverage Pourer. Duties may include answering Guest questions, taking and assembling Guest orders, serving salads, entrees and beverages and stocking and replenishing food. Role requires frequent pushing/pulling & lifting, and constant walking/standing.

Front Desk

Front Desk Cast Member responsibilities include checking in Guests, operating highly technical computer systems, providing information for the resort and surrounding areas, answering Guest questions regarding the Disneyland Resort, and cash handling. Front Desk Cast Members are required to multitask, memorize multiple types of rooms as well as other information and maintain high attention to detail in a fast paced environment. This role involves constant walking/standing, constant pushing/pulling up to 10 lbs, frequent bending/twisting/kneeling and constant use of hands.

Guest Relations

Guest Relations Cast Members serve as a knowledgeable point of contact for all resort Guests. They must be adept at handling Guest inquiries and concerns in an effective and timely manner. They are required to answer phone calls, complete ticket and cash transactions and provide park information while standing/sitting for up to two hours at a time. They must be able to stay calm during complex and fast-paced situations and be able to work in a team-oriented atmosphere and possess a dynamic personality. This role involves frequent walking/standing, occasional pushing/pulling/lifting and frequent work outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions.

Guest Research

Guest Research Cast Members are responsible for conducting high-volume field research across the Disneyland Resort. Cast Members are responsible for initiating one-one-one interviews with Guests, collecting data and being accountable for daily mobile computer equipment check before and after shift. Cast Members must follow strict methodology procedures when conducting interviews. This role involves constantly carrying a seven-pound mobile data collection computer around the waist, a hand held penslate monitor and a stylus to input data. Cast Members must be able to multi-task while conducting interviews and answering Guest questions. This position requires walking or standing in outdoor locations for most of a shift.

Lifeguard

Lifeguard responsibilities include ensuring the well-being of our Guests, keeping pool areas clean, answering Guest questions and enforcing policies, rules and regulations of recreation locations. Physical demands include ability to swim 200 yards, and performing work that may involve lifting Guests in and out of the pool up to 100 lbs or more with assistance. Lifeguard training provided and must be successfully completed. This role involves frequent walking/standing, pushing/pulling and bending/twisting/kneeling, as well as working outdoors in extreme heat and/or cold.

Parking Cashier (Hotel Operations)

Parking Cashier Cast Members are responsible for welcoming and greeting our Guests as they arrive at the resort hotels. This role involves cash handling, using a computerized register system, and constant interaction with Guests and Cast Members by answering questions, providing directions, event information and other services. This role involves constant walking/standing, constant lifting up to 10 lbs, constant bending/twisting/kneeling and working outdoors in a wide range of environmental elements.

Photo Imaging

Photo Imaging Cast Members provide Guests with the opportunity to capture their experience at the Disneyland Resort with high-quality photos taken with the latest in digital photography technology. Cast Members are responsible for proactively approaching Guests to offer photo opportunities and informing them of the variety of services available. This position requires working outdoors, constant walking and standing and carrying photography equipment.

Quick Service Food & Beverage Cashier

Cashier responsibilities include greeting and taking Guests' orders, entering orders into a computerized register and verifying the Guests' orders by repeating total orders back. These Cast Members receive and process payments, clean and maintain work areas, replenish food and other serving items as necessary and receive and prepare orders according to established guidelines. This role involves repetitive wrist motion, bending, lifting and pushing/pulling.

Resort Transportation & Parking

As part of the Resort Transportation & Parking Team, Cast Members are responsible for directing traffic, operating passenger-carrying trams, memorizing and reciting safety spiels, cash handling and assisting Guests with loading/unloading of strollers, wheelchairs and other personal items. The position requires constant Guest interaction, standing and walking for long periods of time, arm movements to direct vehicle traffic and working outdoors in a wide range of environment elements.

Stores/Retail

Retail Sales Clerk Cast Members have the opportunity to work indoors and/or outdoors at a number of locations throughout the Disneyland Resort. Responsibilities include operating a point-of-sale system (POS register), cash handling, greeting Guests entering and exiting the location, stocking and counting inventory. Cast Members will be expected to assist Guests with their merchandise selection and share resort information. Cast Members must be able to use a computer register, handle cash, lift stock/inventory and push/pull up carts and dollies. This position requires walking or standing in outdoor locations for most of a shift.

Ticket Seller

The responsibilities of a Ticket Seller include operating a computerized ticketing system, informing Guests about ticket options, cash handling, providing information, answering questions, handling Guest situations and accommodating special requests. Cast Members are required to multi-task, answering Guest questions while processing transactions on computer. Memorization of multiple types of media needed. Strong communication and listening skills are also necessary. Computer skills and cash handling or comparable experience are required. This position involves constant pushing/pulling up to 10 lbs, frequent bending/twisting and constant use of hands.
