Mineral King: Walt's Lost Last Project
3:00pm | Theater ($)
Urban Planner and Community Engagement Specialist Sam Gennawey hosts past Disney CEO and Museum Founder Ron Miller and architect David Price to discuss the innovative (and now-forgotten) year-round mountain resort that was one of Walt's last major projects. This fascinating program gives context and detail to a remarkable and imaginative destination resort project that Walt assumed was a fait accompli upon his passing, and explains the forces and opposition that led to its ultimate abandonment. Illustrated with rare images, art, photos, archival documents, and film clips; this program offers insight into Walt's vision at the height of his final career phase.
Perilous Assignment: The Making of Third Man on the Mountain
3:00pm | Theater ($)
Join author, historian, and friend of the Museum Jeff Kurtti as he hosts a screening of the rarely-seen 1959 Walt Disney Presents TV episode "Perilous Assignment." Promoted as an in-depth study of the art of mountain climbing, this episode of Walt Disney Presents is actually an extended promotion for the then-upcoming theatrical feature, Third Man on the Mountain. Although the stars of that film (including James MacArthur and Michael Rennie) appear, the real hero of the proceedings is French mountain climber Gaston Rebufatt, who functioned as the guide and second-unit director for the film while the company was on location in and around Zermatt, Switzerland.

A Conversation with Nancy Olson
3:00pm | Theater ($)
In celebration of Women's History Month and our Film of the Month, Pollyanna, we are delighted to welcome the co-star of that film for a conversation about her experience in Hollywood and with Walt Disney. Discovered on stage after transferring to UCLA, Nancy was quickly signed by Paramount Pictures in 1948, and almost immediately landed co-starring parts in Sunset Boulevard (1950), Big Jim McLain (1952), and So Big (1953), but put her acting on hold in favor of raising two daughters. She decided to return full-time to acting in the early 60s and played Fred Mac Murray's love interest in both The Absent-Minded Professor (1961) and Son of Flubber (1963), as well as Nancy Furman in Pollyanna (1960). Nancy went on to work on Broadway, notably in the plays The Tunnel of Love, Send Me No Flowers and Mary, Mary. She retired in the mid-80s. Disney historian and friend of the Museum Jeff Kurtti will host a conversation with this delightful star, and share rare photographs and film clips from her projects for Walt.
