Over the years, Fred MacMurray told interviewers he was "a personality not an actor." While Billy Wilder, who directed the affable Fred in such films as "Double Indemnity" with Barbara Stanwyck and "The Apartment" with Shirley MacLaine, summed up his personality well, when he called him "everybody´s nice fellow."
"I wish I could say I had this master plan for a career, but I always thought acting was something I'd do until I had a hit record. But no one liked my singing, so I just kept on acting."
With his trust "Mousegetar" in hand, this plucky young man served as host of the original "Mickey Mouse Club" television program, where he penned more than 30 songs, including "The Mickey Mouse Club March."
