Kid of the Month Rules

  1. How to Enter the Contest:
      No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited.
    1. Kids 14 and under are eligible to be nominated as Radio Disney's Kid of the Month, a monthly feature recognizing a child as a hero for putting forth an extra effort. Child selected as Kid of the Month will win a "Kid of the Month" trophy and a prize as announced on-air.
    2. Anyone can nominate a child for the contest. A child may not nominate him/herself. Entries must be submitted ONLY via mail to Radio Disney Kid of the Month Contest, P.O. Box 802626, Dallas, TX 75380.
    3. Valid entries must be legibly written in pen or typed on a postcard or 8.5" x 11" piece of paper and include all of the following information: a description of the deed performed (IN 50 WORDS OR LESS), the first and last name, and area code and phone number of the child who performed the deed, plus his/her address, city, state, zip code, and age. The entry must also contain the first and last name of the nominating person, his/her day and nighttime phone number(s) with area code, and relationship/connection to the nominated child.
    4. Contest will continue month to month until further notice. Contest month (i.e. time during which nominations are accepted by mail) begins and ends at midnight (12:00 a.m.) Central Time the 20th of each month. Winner will be announced on-air on approximately the first Monday of each calendar month.
    5. Only one deed per child per entry. Each entry must be submitted separately by individual mail-in submission.
    6. All entries that are not winning entries during the month in which they were eligible for consideration will be discarded and not be considered for subsequent months. A new entry must be submitted for each month, and the same deed may be resubmitted in subsequent months, as long as it continues to meet the eligibility requirements.
    7. Radio Disney is not responsible for lost, misdirected, or stolen mail, incomplete or ineligible entries, errors in transmission, incorrect or illegible phone numbers, changes in address, or inability to access the Radio Disney Web site.
    8. All entries become the property of Radio Disney and will not be returned.

  2. Eligibility Restrictions:
    1. Only children who are 14 years of age or under at time of nomination and legal residents of the continental United States, Hawaii, and Alaska are eligible to win Kid of the Month. No one who is nominated or who is nominating another person can be an employee of Radio Disney, ABC Radio Networks, ABC, Inc., affiliates of Radio Disney, Disney Enterprises, Inc., and its subsidiary companies, their corporate licensees, affiliate advertising agencies, or participating sponsors/promotional partners, or be a member of the immediate family of anyone so employed.
    2. Deed must have been performed by the child within the last 12 months. If this deed is not verified by parent/guardian and nominated child to the satisfaction of Radio Disney, the entry will be disqualified.
    3. A child can win Kid of the Month only once per 12-month period. Only one Kid of the Month winner per household per year.
    4. Person nominating or submitting the entry may be a parent, guardian, relative, teacher, clergyman, counselor, coach, friend, sibling, etc.

  3. Selection of Winners:
    1. Contest will be judged by Radio Disney personnel or by its designated agents. Decisions of the judges with respect to all contest matters are final.
    2. Judging criteria: Winning deeds are those that both enhance and show the goodness of the child's character by making a contribution to education, family, community, and/or the environment. Judges will look for demonstrated initiative of the child that is above and beyond the expected.
    3. In the event that winning parent/guardian or child forfeits his/her win, Radio Disney will select an alternate winner, if time permits.
    4. To qualify as Kid of the Month, child/household and nominating party must meet all eligibility requirements and conditions set forth in these rules.

  4. Prizes:
    1. Kid of the Month will receive a total prize package with approximate retail value of $800 - $1,500 to be announced on-air. Some restrictions may apply.
    2. A scholarship prize, as one part of the total prize package, will be awarded by Radio Disney. The scholarship prize will consist of an irrevocable investment in a U.S. Savings Bond (or equivalent) that will mature in a period of approximately 12 - 17 years. Unless otherwise specified, the U.S. Savings Bond will be mailed to the winner's home. Approximate value of each prize was $500 as of 7/1/98. At maturity, the U.S. Savings Bond will have a value of $1,000. The scholarship portion of prize is limited to the mature value of the U.S. Savings Bond. In the event that the U.S. Savings Bond is redeemed prior to maturity, the value will be less than $1,000. Radio Disney, ABC Radio Networks, ABC, Inc., affiliates of Radio Disney and ABC Radio Networks, Disney Enterprises, Inc., its corporate licensees, its affiliated advertising agencies, and participating sponsors/promotional partners are not responsible for the difference.
    3. Unless otherwise specified, a set of Radio Disney "Kid of the Month" merchandise will also be mailed to the winner's address (address information to be provided to Radio Disney by the winner as part of verification of eligibility to win). The Radio Disney "Kid of the Month" merchandise package has an approximate total value of $300 - $500.
    4. Any prize not claimed or redeemed within 45 days of winning will be forfeited. The winner assumes the risk of safe arrival of prize. Radio Disney is not responsible for lost, misdirected, or stolen mail, or unsafe arrival of prize.
    5. Prize is not transferable by winner. Prize may not be substituted or redeemed for cash by winner. Radio Disney reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value for announced prize.

  5. Conditions:
    1. Payment of all federal, state, and local taxes is the sole responsibility of the winner. An IRS form 1099 or the equivalent will be issued to the winner for tax purposes. The winner is responsible for reporting the value of the U.S. Savings Bond at the end of the calendar year in which the prize was awarded on-air and any accrued interest in subsequent years, if applicable, based on prevailing tax laws.
    2. A certified birth certificate or other evidence of age satisfactory to Radio Disney must be provided as proof of the child's age before the prize will be awarded. The winner and parent/guardian must provide full name and Social Security number to claim scholarship prize. Failure to sign and return any documents in a timely manner, or if prize is returned as non-deliverable, may result in prize forfeiture. Kid of the Month scholarship will be paid to the child in a period of approximately 12-17 years. Such child is designated award recipient for the purposes of this promotion. In case of the death of recipient prior to the maturity of the U.S. Savings Bond, the bond will be paid to the child's legal estate.
    3. Winner and his/her parent/legal guardian will be required to sign and have notarized an Affidavit of Eligibility, Release, and Indemnification. All winners agree to release, discharge, and hold harmless Radio Disney, ABC Radio Networks, ABC, Inc., affiliates of Radio Disney and ABC Radio Networks, Disney Enterprises, Inc., its corporate licensees, its affiliated advertising agencies, and participating sponsors/promotional partners from and against any and all claims, expenses, or liabilities arising from participation in the contest and/or acceptance or use of any prize. Failure to complete and return Affidavit of Eligibility, Release and Indemnification Form and/or Prize Value form within 14 days of receipt will result in disqualification.
    4. By participating in this contest, the nominator, Kid of the Month winner, and his/her parent/legal guardian each agrees that without further obligation or permission, Radio Disney, ABC Radio Networks, ABC Inc., the Disney Enterprises, Inc., and its affiliated companies and advertising, promotions, and publicity agencies may use winner's name, likeness, photograph, voice, biographical data, and written entry for any and all purposes in any and all media, unless prohibited by law.

  6. Rules Changes:
      Radio Disney reserves the right to make changes in the rules that will become effective upon announcement over the air and/or on the Radio Disney Web site at www.disney.com.
