PARENTS' TIPS FROM FAMILY.COM!

Want a great way to keep the kids from getting into "fowl" trouble before the Thanksgiving feast? Have them make this adorable turkey centerpiece!

You'll need: a gourd, round toothpicks, pumpkin, red chili pepper, orange rind, cloves, corn husks or tamale wrappers, tempera paints, and a pair of red gloves.

Step 1: To create the turkey's face, push a few toothpicks halfway into one side of the gourd, then attach it to the pumpkin by pushing the protruding toothpick ends through the pumpkin shell. Use the same method to attach the chili-pepper wattle.

Step 2: For eyes, use two orange-rind circles. Push a clove through the center of each one and into the gourd.

Step 3: Next, tint the corn husk feathers by dipping them into diluted tempera paints (2 parts water to 1 part paint) and attach them to the pumpkin with toothpicks.

Step 4: Set the completed turkey atop the red gloves so that the fingers resemble turkey feet.

Age 3
In Eeyore's Shadow Catcher, the gloomy donkey has lost his shadow! By matching objects with their shadows - a great way for young ones to learn about shapes - your child will help gloomy ol' Eeyore get his shadow back!

Age 5
Get your kids in on the Thanksgiving Day action by having them help decorate! At the Pocahontas Paint Center, kids will find printables of Pocahontas, Meeko, Flit, and friends that can be colored and decorated with autumn leaves, corn husks, and more. Kids can then tape or pin the pretty pictures on pumpkins, doors, and the dinner table for a festive atmosphere.

Age 8
Journey Down Under to rescue the lost 'roo in Hip 'n' Hop: Hoppin' Mad. Your child will hop, skip, and jump through three worlds, avoiding un-roo-ly enemies, collecting stars and hearts, and punching the bad guys along the way. It's a really fun time, and gives your young gamer's hand-eye coordination a real workout, mate!

Did you know ...

That the movie "Fantasia" (1940) ran in only 14 theaters during its original release? The reason was that the film's complicated sound system was expensive and parts were in short supply due to war preparations.
