Parents' Tip Child's Play

It's just a few short weeks until Halloween, so why not get the whole family into the spirit by making some Ghost Wind Socks? These easy-to-craft spooky decorations are perfect for haunting porches and trees. You'll need: white construction paper, black permanent marker, stapler, white crepe paper, tape, and string.
  • Step 1: For each windsock, decorate a 6-by-18-inch piece of white construction paper with ghostly eyes and a horrific mouth.
  • Step 2: Roll the paper to form a tube shape and staple the ends together. Cut eight 8-foot-long strips of crepe paper and drape them over the top edge with both ends hanging down to create "tails." Secure with tape or a handle, cut a 30-inch piece of string, and staple the ends to opposite sides of the top of the decoration.
  • Step 3: Cut eight 8-foot-long strips of crepe paper and drape them over the top edge with both ends hanging down to create "tails." Secure with tape.
  • Step 4: For a handle, cut a 30-inch piece of string and staple the ends to opposite sides of the top of the decoration.

Did you know ...

...that Jack Skellington, from the 1993 file Tim Burton's The Night Before Christmas, made a cameo in James and the Giant Peach? In the movie's underwater sequence, the character Centipede attempts to steal a compass from a pirate ship and the skeletons come alive with Captain Jack leading them. Both of these films were stop-action movies made by the production company Skellington.
