Exotic Places and Landmarks:

 

Pharos Lighthouse — One of the Seven Wonders of the World, this lighthouse was built during the third century B.C. on the island of Pharos. Bartimaeus claims that this structure was destroyed by the careless use of a talisman.

 

Prague — The capital city of the Czech Republic, where according to magician lore, the legendary golems are said to have originated.

 

Red Sea — Sea between Africa and the Arabian Peninsula that served as the main route to the Indies for Phoenician and ancient Egyptian traders. Bartimaeus claims to have spent much of the sixth century floating on the Red Sea while trapped in an old sesame oil jar.

 

Richmond Estate — The secluded home of Prime Minister Rupert Devereaux, whose rule depends on a lofty detachment from lesser ministers.

 

Strahov Gate — The most vulnerable outpost of the walls surrounding Prague castle; these doors were sealed with triple hexes and trigger mechanisms.

 

Strahov Monastery — A vital landmark, the Monastery was built at the highest point on the approach route leading to Prague castle. Bartimaeus claims to have built its surrounding city walls.

 

Stone Bridge — Also known as the Charles Bridge. A stone bridge, of gothic design, that extends over Vltava River, and connects the two sections of Prague. Bartimaeus claims to have constructed the bridge with nine other djinn in just a single night.

 

Sumer — An ancient region in southern Mesopotamia. Bartimaeus was first summoned there to irrigate the Fertile Crescent and divert the Euphrates.

 

Tenochtitlán — An ancient city in the central valley of Mexico and the capital of the Aztecs. According to Bartimaeus, the fierce demon Nouda, who was frequently summoned by the Aztecs, ravaged their capital city and left it defenseless against the Spanish.

 

Thames — A river flowing through Southern England and connecting London with the sea.

 

Theban desert — The desert of Thebes, an ancient city in Upper Egypt. Under Ptolemy's orders, Bartimaeus claims to have marched with Egyptians troops through this desert to ambush the Bedouin.
