Axum — An ancient city in Ethiopia dating back to 100 B.C. Bartimaeus was allowed to freely explore the city during his service to Ptolemy.
Azerbaijan — A country located on the western shore of the Caspian Sea; a predominantly mountainous region.
Babylon's Hanging Gardens — One of the Seven Wonders of the World, in the ancient city of Babylon; these gardens were created around 600 B.C. and were laid out atop a vaulting building that had the means of raising water. Bartimaeus claims that this structure was destroyed by careless use of a talisman.
Baku — The capital of Azerbaijan. According to Martha Underwood, an important center for researching afrits.
Barbary Coast — The North African shores of the Mediterranean Sea. Bartimaeus sailed with the Egyptian fleet here and fought two battles against pirates.
Basra — Ancient city, one of the most important ports on the Persian Gulf.
