Fred — A tall, rather spotty youth who is a member of the Resistance; he stole Nathaniel's scrying glass in conspiracy with a fellow Resistance member. He perished during the raid of Gladstone's tomb after putting up a valiant fight.
Fry, Marmaduke — The former Foreign Minister; a man of capacious appetite who was slain by an imp during an attempt to negotiate a truce between rebel guerillas and the British army.
Gilgamesh — In Babylonian legend, he was the king of Uruk. Bartimaeus claims to have helped him defeat the giant Humbaba.
Gladys — A blond woman in her twenties and member of the Resistance; is able to detect objects containing magical force.
Gladstone, William — The most powerful magician ever to become prime minister. He ruled more than 100 years ago.
Harknett, Ms. — A magician and former Home Secretary who was murdered after speaking out against Council policies.
Harlequin — A plump, elderly man of funereal temperament and one of Britain's top secret agents.
Hermit, The — In ancient times, an expert assassin; trained his disciples in numerous methods of foolproof murder. Four of his disciples tried to assassinate Ptolemy.
Hopkins, Clem — A clerk at the British Library; a commoner who claimed to be a scholar. An associate of the mysterious Benefactor and advisor to the Resistance, he is later revealed to be a conspirator behind the Golem Affair, the Lovelace Conspiracy, and the Demon Revolt.
Hyrnek, Grandmama — Jakob's grandmother. She gives Kitty a small, silver pendant in the shape of a teardrop, as a form of protection.
