"John Carter" Character Reveal Mondays #3

The "John Carter" countdown continues with a sneak preview into the Martian world of Barsoom. Mark your calendars for March 9, when the movie lands in theaters nationwide.

MEET TARS TARKAS

“When I saw you leap into the sky, I wished to believe it was a sign that something new can come into this world.”

Enter Tars Tarkas, the fierce Martian warrior who's Jeddak (read: King) of the Tharks, Barsoom's nomadic green race known for their tusks, statuesque height, four arms, and aggressive, combative behavior.

FUN FACT:  The actors playing the nine-foot tall Tharks had to learn to walk on stilts to film the scenes with John Carter, which provided the correct eye-line contact for the dialogue!

The last vestige of nobility runs in Tarkas's blood and is the only thing that prevents the Thark tribe from turning into complete beasts. Blessed with a good sense of humor and patience, Tars befriends Earth man John Carter and gives him the Thark name Dotar Sojat, which roughly translates as “my right arms.”

Check back next Monday for more "John Carter"!
