Looking Deeper into "Meet the Robinsons" and the Future of Film
Phil McNally looks at things a little more deeply than most people do -- but then, that's his job. As the "stereoscopic supervisor" for the upcoming Disney film "Meet the Robinsons," it's his job to bring depth to the movie -- in every sense of the word! How do we see a flat image on a screen as a 3D world we could practically step into? And how do you make a film that takes advantage of the whole new dimension opened up by 3D?
"Meet the Robinsons," opening in theaters on March 30, is a film of the future in more ways than one. ASK DAVE
YOUR QUESTION
What happened to the "old" Discovery Island (bird sanctuary) just off the Contemporary Resort?
- Dave, 62, Cedar Rapids, IA
DAVE'S ANSWER
Discovery Island, formerly Treasure Island, in Bay Lake was open to Guests at Walt Disney World from 1974 to 1999. With the great number of attractions added through the years at the Resort, and primarily because of the opening of Disney's Animal Kingdom in 1998, executives made the decision to close the underutilized island. The animals were all transferred to Animal Kingdom.
