Chim Chim Cher-ee on Broadway

The new musical previews at Broadway's historic New Amsterdam Theater, ready for its opening on November 16.

The New York show features several revised musical numbers, some changed staging to take advantage of the enormous New Amsterdam stage, and an all-new cast. Well ... almost. One performer has made the journey from the London stage: Gavin Lee, who plays Bert the chimney sweep, Mary's would-be beau. We talked to Gavin about bringing the magic to Broadway, and learned what it takes to "step in time."

"Mary Poppins" the stage musical isn't just a fabulous career opportunity for Gavin -- it was also his introduction to "Mary Poppins" the film. He explains, "As a kid, I never sat down and watched the whole film. And I deliberately didn't watch it before auditioning, just because I wanted to bring my own vision to the character. So, when I got the part, my wife said 'You've got to sit down and watch this film now.' She'd seen it six or seven times growing up and loved it."

Walt kept a few of his favorite awards behind the desk in his office. These included his first Oscar®, for the creation of Mickey Mouse, and the Irving Thalberg Award, presented by the Motion Picture Academy for Best Producer.
