Search Hints and Tips

Q: How do I search for the information I want?
A: The keyword search feature on the Disney Movie Finder FIND IT FAST can help you find information quickly and easily. Here are a few tips to make your searches work for you.

1. Be specific. The more you can narrow the topic of a search, the easier it will be to scan the results. For example, of the following searches:

Winnie the Pooh
Winnie the Pooh and Tigger
Winnie the Pooh Sing A Song with Tigger

The search for "Winnie the Pooh Sing A Song with Tigger" will deliver the most limited and focused set of results.

2. Don't worry about upper- or lowercase letters, or variations in word endings. The following searches will all produce similar results:

cats
Cats
CATS
cat

3. If you are looking for an exact phrase (identical in phrasing, spelling, punctuation - everything but capitalization), enclose it in double quotes. Or, simply type the phrase into the search window and then click on the Exact Word button to search for the exact word or phrase you have typed. The search will find only matches of the entire phrase and will not provide matches for individual words within the phrase. Here are several examples:

"Spanish VHS"
"Three Musketeers"
"Roy O. Disney"

4. If you wish a more general search, you can type in a phrase without double quotes, or click on the Any Word button. The search engine will then provide matches for the entire phrase, as well as matches for any single word within the phrase. For example, if you type in Old Yeller and click Any Word, the search results will provide the title "Old Yeller" and will also provide any title which has the word "old" or the word "yeller" in any field on the product page.

5. Use conjunctions like "and," "and not," and "or" to add or exclude keywords from a search.

A. String together all the words that must appear in the search results (in no particular order) with "and." For example: dogs and cats and DVD.

B. If you don't want a word or words to appear in the search results, place them after "and not." For example:

cats and not dogs
cats and not Aristocats

C. String together words, any of which you might want in the search results, with "or." For example:

Winnie the Pooh or Tigger or Songs

5. Experiment with different keyword combinations. Depending on the nature of the results you want, one pairing might work better than another. Here are similar combinations:

Winnie the Pooh and Sing A Song
Winnie the Pooh and Tigger
Sing A Song and songs and not VHS
Sing A Song or songs
