Long before Matthew McConaughey co-starred with flying dragons in last year's
Reign Of Fire, he shared screen time with another set of winged creatures -- angels. In 1994, McConaughey played outfielder Ben Williams in
Angels In The Outfield, alongside Danny Glover, Gordon Joseph-Levitt, Brenda Fricker, Christopher Lloyd, Dermot Mulroney, Adrien Brody, and Tony Danza. Levitt (Jim Hawkins in
Treasure Planet) plays Roger, the foster child who literally sees angels in the outfield - and anywhere else on the field the Anaheim Angels seem to need help. Glover is Tony Knox, the jaded manager of the Angels who hates his own team and lives a life of not-so-quiet desperation, cursing a blue streak (you can't really hear him) in the bullpen as his team bombs out time and again. When fate brings Knox and Roger together, it's good news for everyone -- especially the team. Baseball action that rivals Game 7 of the 1986 World Series (Mets vs. Red Sox) and a great supporting cast add to the fun. And Giants fans, don't get any ideas. The real Anaheim A's won the pennant last year fair and square.
Run time: Approximately 103 minutes. Rated PG for mild language.
