txt=ROSS GREENBURG (executive producer) is president of HBO Sports and an executive vice president of the company. He is responsible for strategic direction and overseeing all aspects of the HBO Sports franchise, including HBO Pay-Per-View. Prior to his appointment in 2000, Greenburg spent five years as vice president and executive producer, HBO Sports and served for ten years as vice president and executive producer, Home Box Office. He joined HBO Sports in 1978 as an assistant to the producer and within a year became a sports producer at age 24. Greenburg has long been acknowledged as one of sports television's most innovative executives. In 1995 he created "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel," which has established itself as the leading sports journalism program on television. Winner of ten Sports Emmy Awards, "Real Sports" is regarded by many as the "60 Minutes" of sports. To a large degree Greenburg redefined and reinvigorated the genre of sports documentaries. His unique storytelling work includes the 1991 and 1992 Emmy and Peabody Award winning documentaries, "When It Was A Game" and "When It Was A Game II" about the Golden Age of baseball, the Emmy Award winning documentary, "Arthur Ashe: Citizen of the World," acclaimed documentaries on the lives of Sonny Liston, Joe DiMaggio, Babe Ruth, Sugar Ray Robinson and groundbreaking films "Long Shots: The Life and Times of the American Basketball Association," "Dare To Compete: The Struggle of Women In Sports," "Do You Believe in Miracles: The Story of the 1980 U.S. Hockey Team" and "City Dump: The Story of the 1951 CCNY Basketball Scandal." He served as executive producer on the HBO original film "61*," the story of Roger Maris' and Mickey Mantle's quest for the home run record in 1961 and on HBO Pictures' "Tyson." Under Greenburg's vision, two of cable television's most enduring specials prospered on HBO, "Wimbledon" and "Inside the NFL," currently in its twenty-sixth season. He has also helped make HBO the undisputed network of champions, covering nearly two hundred prize fights. Greenburg has won more than fifty major television sports awards including six Peabody Awards, twenty one CableACE Awards, twenty four Sports Emmy Awards, twelve Cine Golden Eagle Awards, five Monitor Awards from the Video Tape Production Association, and several accolades from the Chicago International Film Festival and the International Film and Television Festival of New York.
