'THE RESCUERS' |
"The Rescuers" is the thrilling adventure of two brave mice, Bernard the shy janitor (Bob Newhart) and the jet-setting Miss Bianca (Eva Gabor), who answer an urgent call from the animal-only International Rescue Aid Society. With the help of the hilarious, high-flying albatross Orville, the two intrepid mice embark on a quest to creepy Devil's Bayou in order to find and rescue a lost orphan named Penny. Abducted by Madame Medusa, a hilariously evil villainess, Penny is enslaved as part of Madame Medusa's greedy attempt to find the world's largest diamond, the Devil's Eye. Bernard and Miss Bianca enlist a spirited army of lovable swamp critters and a fearless dragonfly named Evinrude in the hopes of outwitting not only Madame Medusa but her smirking sidekick, Mr. Snoops, and her pair of outrageous pet crocodiles! Disney's "The Rescuers" is based on two books by Margery Sharp: "The Rescuers" and "Miss Bianca."
As in all Disney classics, an impressive roster of acting talents lend their voices and skills to "The Rescuers." Renowned TV star and comedian Bob Newhart (TV's NEWHART, GEORGE & LEO) and Eva Gabor (TV's GREEN ACRES) provide the voices for Bernard and Miss Bianca. In addition, Academy AwardTM-winning actress Geraldine Page (1986, Best Actress, THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL) is featured as Madame Medusa.
"The Rescuers" is also filled with superb music. "Someone's Waiting for You," written by composer Sammy Fain with lyrics by Carol Connors and Ayn Robbins, was nominated for an Academy AwardTM for Best Song in 1978. Other memorable Connors and Robbins songs from this delightful and unforgettable film include "The Journey," "Rescue Aid Society," and "Tomorrow Is Another Day."
"The Rescuers" is rated G by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and has a running time of 77 minutes. It is presented in digitally remastered hi-fi stereo and is closed-captioned for the hearing impaired.
Walt Disney Home Video is distributed by Buena Vista Home Entertainment, the recognized industry leader for 10 consecutive years.
