You may not know the name Myra just yet, but give the girl a few months-the 14-year-old voice behind "Dancing in the Street" (from Walt Disney Records' "Recess" soundtrack. Check out the music video here!) is on her way to singing superstardom!
Myra just signed a deal with Buena Vista Records to record a solo album (coming out June, 2001) and has performed as part of the Radio Disney World Tour and at Disneyland's Festival de Musica Latina.

The day after her Disneyland concert, we caught up with Myra at the Park, where she let us tag along on a couple of rides, sit in on her Radio Disney interview with Just Plain Mark and Zippy, and ask a few questions of our own!

Five. I'd sing songs from Spanish soap operas and cartoons songs from "The Little Mermaid," stuff like that. I sang professionally for the first time when I was 8, at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. That was a really big show. There were 13,000 people there, and I performed about eight songs. It was great!

I look up to Whitney Houston -- I love her! And Celine Dion, she's a big one.

Yes, Narada Michael Walden, who's been working with Mariah Carey too and a couple of other big people. He's a great guy. He helped me get my record deal and has been a big help in my life, so I want to thank him very, very much.

Yes, he will. We want to have the album come out by 2001. We're still planning everything because I just signed with Disney Records, but I'm really excited. We're picking the songs right now, but one of them might be "Magic Carpet Ride." It's a cool song.

It was great! I went prepared -- I like to go into the studio prepared and then just bang the song out. That's more fun.

Actually, yeah! There was a time when a word suddenly came out sounding kind of country instead of Latin. It was pretty funny!

You don't want to know! [laughs] We were at home and my baby brother got paint all over himself! It was all over his face and then we hear on the radio, "Myra's coming up next!" So I was like, "Ahh!" I grabbed him and put him in the shower to get the paint off and when I came back, the song was on -- I almost missed it, but it felt totally cool!

I like to get nervous a couple of months before so I won't be on the day of the concert. But I'll admit it, I was still a little nervous. A lot of my family was here, though, and that made me feel better, like I had backup and people to lean on. It was all good!

I danced with Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy. It was so fun -- we danced the Macarena!
