Kelvin Y.S. Chun has motivated his students to take the initiative in the learning process. He guides his students in mastering the tools of modern technology, and in developing critical thinking skills they can use for life-long learning.

Highlights:
- Teaches students to develop electronic portfolios of their work in various media (audio, video, graphics, text) stored on the school network file server. Electronic portfolios are "folders" containing electronic versions of students' work stored on the school computer.
- Developing Project A' o like o Nu`uanu (Learning Together at Nu`uanu) where students explore the Nu'uanu community (history, culture, geography) using multimedia, video, and telecommunications technology. Students engage in archival research of Hawaiian history through Internet research, field research, and documentation of oral history from the people of Nu'uanu.
- Utilizes system that allows students to "hand-in" assignments electronically to teachers.
- Teaches students by guiding them to technology resources including the Internet, CD-ROM databases, and multimedia resources. Created interactive, closed-circuit television broadcast in the school for students.
- Organized Technology Club at Nu`uanu Elementary School.
- Archives web-based or electronic portfolios on a CD-ROM.
- Established a course for high school students to learn and train technology concepts to elementary students at Nu`uanu School.
- Incorporates magic tricks, balloons, and kites in interactive teaching methods in the classroom.
- Named Year 2000 Honolulu District Teacher of the Year.
