The best charities to invest in are those that help improve both our surroundings and the people around us. This page is intended to provide information about the charities that The Walt Disney Company supports through its DisneyHAND worldwide outreach.

Environmental Issues and Environmentality

What, you may ask, is "Environmentality?" At The Walt Disney Company, we believe that environmental issues, especially respect for the environment, are important guiding principles in how we do business around the world. For more information on our commitment to environmental protection programs and environmental issues, please download our Enviroport or read more about our projects and programs here. The Walt Disney Company's yearly Enviroport details our many environmentally friendly projects and our positions on environmental issues, from recycling to conservation

Jiminy Cricket's Environmentality Challenge

Jiminy Cricket's Environmentality Challenge is a unique partnership between The Walt Disney Company and the states of California and Florida, encouraging fifth-grade students to think more about their environment and why it is "cool to care" about the earth.  As part of this unique program in environmental education:

In Florida...

  • Classes participate in a two-tiered program consisting of a Pledge or a Class Project, and receive special Jiminy Cricket merchandise incentives for their participation. The Pledge requires a personal commitment to the environment and environmental issues, students wanting to take their actions to the next level can submit a more comprehensive Class Project  which can be incorporated into their existing curriculum and use teamwork, mathematics, language skills and science. Class Projects, are judged within each of the six Florida Department of Environmental Protection regions, and one State Champion class is selected from the six regional winners. The State Champion class receives an all-expense paid trip to The Walt Disney Company's Walt Disney World Resort, including a recognition ceremony and educational tour. Our 2001 winners in Mrs. Jill Putney's class from Sunrise Elementary in Sunrise, Florida, focused their efforts on the environmental issue of water conservation. They had the opportunity to meet and be recognized by Roy E. Disney during their field trip in May.

      In California...

  • The Environmentality Challenge is the result of a unique partnership between Disney and the State of California's Environmental Education Interagency Network. Click here to find out how you can incorporate Environmentality into your core curriculum using standards-based environmental education materials. Who knows, your class may win an all-expense paid field trip to the Disneyland Resort!
