Community service has always been a priority at The Walt Disney Company. It is carried out through company philanthropy programs like the VoluntEARS program, Disney Next Door, Environmentality, and Disneys compassion programs. Disney believes that good community relations should be fostered through company philanthropy and that community service is an important part of being a good corporate citizen and neighbor.

VoluntEARS

The Walt Disney Company is very proud of the Disney VoluntEARS program, which builds on a philosophy of community service established by our founder, Walt Disney, of applying the same enthusiasm for innovative ideas to the area of community involvement and community relations as he did to motion picture, television and theme park development. VoluntEARS has not only met but has far exceeded original expectations in the number of projects, volunteer hours and outreach into the community. In 2001, Disney VoluntEARS around the world participated in more than 1,000 projects and programs and contributed in excess of 352,000 community service hours, filling 83,000 volunteer opportunities.

In response to the Presidents' Summit for America's Future held in 1997, The Walt Disney Company and its employees committed to contribute one million volunteer community service hours to America's Promise through the year 2000. It was the intent of this commitment to touch those in need with the Disney magic and make a positive impact on their lives and the future of America. Disney VoluntEARS led the effort and in November of 2000, one month ahead of schedule, achieved the one million-hour goal.

Disney Next Door

At Disney Next Door we share information about the community service work that The Walt Disney Company supports on a local level in the communities where we do business.

Anaheim, CA - The Disneyland Resort

The Disneyland Resort is proud to share the magic of giving. We focus our efforts on six categories: Volunteerism, Environment, Education, Health, Arts, and Children and Families. Our legacy of giving was initiated by Walt Disney himself and is practiced by thousands of Disneyland Resort Cast Members every year. Through numerous community events, programs and Cast Member activities, we work to provide leadership and support to many non-profit organizations and individuals - the true magic makers - who use the resources we provide to enrich thousands of lives.

During the past two years alone, the Disneyland Resort has donated millions of dollars in support of non-profit organizations and other activities that benefit people throughout the Anaheim area. During this same period, our VoluntEARS have given 200,000 hours of their personal time to serve the community. Programs and Cast Member efforts touch over one million lives each year.

Burbank, Glendale and Los Angeles, CA - The Walt Disney Studios

The Corporate Community Relations Department, located at The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, CA, oversees Disney's philanthropic outreach to Burbank, Glendale and the greater Los Angeles area. Work includes efforts in the arts, health and medicine, children's health and welfare, education, youth, community enrichment and civic involvement. Community Relations supports thousands of non-profit organizations with fundraising assistance - each year we donate merchandise, videos, resort tickets and other Disney items for charity fundraisers or special events.
