LEVEL DESIGNER - PIRATES
A Level Designer reports to the Lead Level Designer and is responsible for developing, creating and implementing quest content. They design, set up and populate the quests within the game to provide the player with engaging challenges and a satisfying narrative. They are accountable for delivering top quality quest content that is consistent with the overall creative vision and story for the game.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the design and implementation of quests and other story elements in the game.
- Works with all members of the game team to execute on quest designs.
- Utilizes in-house tools to structure game quests, populating them with characters and items, defining winning conditions and scripting in-game events.
- Updates and maintains documentation.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of professional experience working in a design capacity
- Strong passion for games and excellent knowledge of video games, particularly RPGs
- Excellent documentation skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrates high standards of excellence in work
Assets
- Game industry experience with published titles.
- Console experience, preferably Next Generation (PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii)
- Post secondary education is an asset, particularly in the fields of game design, 3D art, architecture or computer science.
- Love for paper RPGs, board games and comic books.
- Love for creative writing (screenplays, novels, short stories, etc.)
Portfolio and Resume
Samples should include as many of the following as possible:
- Playable level, designed by the applicant using an available game toolset
- Level design documents
- RPG module for paper RPG system
- Writing samples
- Any other relevant design materials
