ENVIRONMENT TECHNICAL ARTIST
An Environment Technical Artist helps define the specifications and technical constraints in the area of world asset construction. They help create assets that are built to withstand performance, pipeline and memory requirements. They support World and Lighting Artists through design and execution of tools; while creating new ways to create assets and workflows. They act as the voice of the artists to the engineering team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Working in conjunction with the Technical Art Director, Art Leads and Engineers, helps to create in-game assets with an eye for optimal performance in the area of Environments and Lighting.
- Designs, executes and rolls out tools, scripts, plugins and workflow customizations complete from 3D Authoring Package to Runtime, working in conjunction with engineers
- Works with the World Architect and Environment Artists to define production techniques and creation of key assets, ensuring that visual quality is not compromised by technical constraints.
- Acts as a bridge between worlds, lighting, and engineering disciplines
- Optimization of game content during production
- Enforcement and oversight of the World Art Pipeline for both internal and external developers
Qualifications
- BS Degree in Computer Science, Graphic Art or a related field
- An eye for composition, detail and artistic style as demonstrated by a top-rate portfolio or demo reel
- 3 years experience in Computer Graphics
- Solid Scripting knowledge (e.g. MEL, XML, Python, Etc�)
- Working knowledge of development software and techniques (e.g. Maya, Zbrush, Photoshop, Etc�)
- An appreciation and balance of both art and engineering concepts
- Solid organizational, verbal and written communication skills
- A sound understanding of Lighting and Architecture, as well as Occlusion and Streaming as they pertain to level construction.
Assets
- Prior experience on AAA console game development.
- Additional background in Film or TV VFX is an advantage
- Knowledge of game development hardware (e.g. XBOX360, PS3, Etc�)
- Knowledge in UI design for artists/animators
- Computer Programming Experience (C++, C#, Etc�)
- Experience using the Unreal Engine
- Prior experience Modeling, Texturing, and creating/optimizing Shaders
