Traditional Animation Software
This group develops and supports the following:
Digital Paint - A digital painting package designed specifically for the
construction and editing of backgrounds, overlays, underlays, etc. It
has been used for nearly half of the paintings in "Atlantis", will be
used for the entire production of "Treasure Planet", and is the artistic
front-end to DeepCanvas.
CAPS - The Academy-Award winning "Computerized Animation Production
System", CAPS is the fully digital pipeline used to create all of our
traditionally-animated films here at Disney. It encompasses scanning,
exposure-sheet creation and evolution, compositing, color modelling,
inking and painting, registration, and film-printing in a manner
unprecedented and unmatched in the film industry.
Scanning Software - Integrated with CAPS, the scanning software drives
state-of-the-art scanning stands to digitize our hand-drawn and
hand-painted artwork.
Filming Software - Integrated with CAPS, the filming software allows us
to print to film any and all images generated throughout our digital
pipeline.
SceneDesigner - SceneDesigner, which is integrated with CAPS, is a 3d
visualization tool that utilizes a virtual multi-plane camera to create
the illusion of depth in our animated features. It provides production
with the ability to place 2-dimensional drawings in a full 3-d space and
animate these billboards or the 3d camera to accomplish dynamic and
complex environments.
Film/Print Scan - Change to Film Scanning: This software drives the
process for scanning in live-action plates for TSL.
Color Management - Walt Disney Feature Animation is creating a
state-of-the-art pipeline for managing the accurate representation and
display of color through all mediums of the filming production process,
from digitizing to film-printing and digital theater projection.
CTI - The "Configuration Tool Interface", CTI is a standard environment
used by our software crews in managing the development and maintenance
of all of our software products.
RAPIDS - The "Release and Packaging of Individual Deployable Software"
utilizes a shopping-cart paradigm to allow our end-users in production
to assemble the suite of tools that best suits their needs.
