John Carey
Vice President of Technology
Walt Disney Feature Animation

As Vice President of Technology, John Carey is responsible for all technical infrastructure and processes involved in operating Disney's worldwide animation and visual effects production facilities. Working closely with the production staff, John and his team help to provide the technical leadership and vision that allows Walt Disney Feature Animation and The Secret Lab to maintain its preeminent position in digital production, animation and visual effects.

John was previously Chief Technology Officer at Magnet Interactive, where he was focused on innovative information delivery systems for broadband initiatives. Prior to that, at Dream Quest Images, his mandate was to identify the critical path to the appropriate solutions necessary to maximize the efficiency of the visual effects production pipeline. To this end, he implemented an interdisciplinary approach involving both 2D and 3D technologies, as well as data and storage system management solutions.

Earlier John was Director of Technology at Santa Barbara Studios. His tenure was characterized by the scalable production pipeline that he engineered and deployed while there. Among John's production credits at Santa Barbara Studios are Visual Effects Supervisor on "Countdown to Extinction" for Walt Disney World's Animal Park attraction, Digital Effects Supervisor on CD-ROM game "Parasite Eve", and Visual Effects and Compositing Supervisor on feature films "Paulie," "An American Werewolf in Paris," "Spawn," and "Star Trek IX: Insurrection."

At cutting-edge publication Wired, John was Director of Technology and, among his other duties, helped design and implement their Internet initiatives. In keeping with his responsibilities as Compositing Supervisor and semi-official software developer at Digital Domain, John worked on "The Island of Dr. Moreau" and was involved in planning for "Titanic." He was also associated with the feature films "Chain Reaction" and "Fifth Element," theme park ride "Terminator 2 3D," and numerous commercials.
