At Walt Disney Feature Animation we want to make sure you know as much as possible about the way we make our movies. That's why we offer a wide variety of training to both artistic and technical staff, in either a classroom setting or in one-on-one sessions. You can learn about everything from the basics to cutting-edge animation software, all under one roof.

Digital Training

We use both proprietary and third-party tools to create the images you see on film. These include animation and graphics software, administration software, and programming tools. You'll be able to learn about the tools, how to use them, how they work together, and how they fit into the Disney animation process and production pipeline.
The training you receive really will depend on production's needs. Here are a few of the areas that might be included:

  • Feature Animation systems overview
  • Digital studio setup and interoperability
  • Tool-specific courses (both for graphics and application development tools)
  • UNIX operating system and environment
  • Rendering software and processes
  • Issue tracking
  • Other, more in-depth training also is offered as needed.

You also might receive basic training in animation principles and the artistic processes Disney uses to make an animated feature.

    Additional Training

    Classes/Seminars
Aside from specific digital training, there are frequent opportunities to attend a variety of both digital and traditional classes open to all employees.
Here are just a few of the many unique opportunities:
  • Drawing classes
  • Workshops
  • Lectures by famous names both within Disney and from the outside animation community
  • Periodic classic films shown in our state-of-the-art screening facilities.

    After-hours program
You might want to take advantage of our self-paced after-hours program, in which employees can learn leading graphics and animation programs on state-of-the-art production equipment.

    Artist Development Library
Another great resource is an extensive research library that features books about animation, filmmaking, CGI, and fine arts, as well as a broad collection of videotaped lectures.

No matter what your needs for education and enrichment are, chances are we can meet those needs and many more.
