Sweatbox - At the old Disney
Hyperion Studio,
pencil tests of animated scenes were shown to
Walt Disney for his approval originally on a
Moviola in a small closet with no ventilation. Not
only was it hot in the closet, but the animators
were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their
work. Thus, the room became known as a
sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to
Burbank and elegant screening rooms were
offered to the staff, they were still called by that
name.
