Sharpsteen, Ben
(1895-1980)
- When Mickey Mouse became a huge hit, Ben Sharpsteen was one of the first
of the New York animators hired by Walt Disney to come to Hollywood to
enlarge the Disney animation staff. Starting as an animator and later
director on the shorts, he then moved to the features where he served
a top role as production supervisor into the early 1950s. He also produced
many of the True-Life Adventures and People and Places featurettes, gaining
an Oscar for "The Ama Girls". Working closely with Walt Disney, he was considered
one of his right-hand men.
