PeopleMover - Disney's first
PeopleMover
was introduced as an attraction at Disneyland
park in 1967, with vehicles moving guests
through and around the buildings in
Tomorrowland. The concept, however, had
actually been formulated three years earlier, and
used for the cars which moved guests through
the Ford Pavilion at the New York World's
Fair. An innovation in design was the use of
electric motors in the track to propel the
vehicles, rather than having on-board engines. A
PeopleMover was later added at the Magic
Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort,
and, undertaken as an outside commission, at
the Houston International Airport.
