Lead-ins - When Walt Disney
began his
television series in the mid-1950s, he was asked
to act personally as the host of the shows. Thus,
for a dozen years, Walt opened each show,
welcoming viewers, and describing what they
would be seeing that week. These openings
were known at the Studio as lead-ins. Walt
would then return at the conclusion of the show
to give a preview of what could be expected the
following week. The "ham" in Walt showed
through in these lead- ins; he enjoyed being in
front of a camera and proved himself a fine host.
