Laugh-O-Grams - Becoming
enamored with
animation, and after experimental work on his
own and while working for the Kansas City Film
Ad Service, Walt Disney decided to set up his
own company, Laugh-O-gram Films, in 1922 to
produce animated films. He sold stock to gain
the necessary capital, and after hiring several
young Kansas City artists, he embarked on the
production of a series of contemporary versions
of old fairy tales. While the films were
promising, Walt Disney was not then a very
good businessman, and the company failed. This
failure created the impetus for Walt to move to
California, where he would begin a much more
successful venture.
