E ticket - In order to maximize
guests' value
when visiting Disneyland, Walt Disney began
offering ticket books shortly after opening.
These ticket books contained an admission ticket, plus coupons lettered
A, B, C, D, and E
for individual attractions in the park. The E-
tickets were for the most elaborate attractions,
such as Matterhorn Bobsleds and Submarine
Village, while an A-ticket would get you a
carousel ride or a trip up Main Street in a
streetcar. After the park switched to all-
inclusive passports in the 1980s, ticket books
were phased out. Nevertheless, they have been
fondly remembered, and the term, "an E-ticket
ride," became part of American slang, meaning
the ultimate in thrills.
