Disneyland - The original Disney amusement and entertainment Park located in Anaheim, California. Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955. Early on, when Walt first dreamed of an amusement park that would be fun for parents and children alike, he considered using a piece of land directly across from the Disney Studios. In 1954, Walt announced his plans for Disneyland, and struck a deal with ABC to produce a television series by the same name. The series not only kept television viewers informed about the designs and construction of the future Disneyland, but also helped finance the theme park. As evidenced by this photo, Walt was particularly enthusiastic about the Sleeping Beauty Castle as a centerpiece for the Park. Its got to keep people oriented, he said. Opening Day was a media extravaganza, complete with a telecast starring Art Linkletter, Ronald Reagan, and Bob Cummings. The show appeared to be a flawless blend of show and excitement; but in reality, Walt and his staff were having more than their share of difficulties on the first day of full operations.
