Disney, Roy Oliver - (1893-1971) Walts older brother and business partner. Together they founded the Disney Company in 1923. Roy married Edna Francis in 1925. They had one son, Roy E. Disney. Roy was Walt's lifelong partner, protector, and friend. Over the course of decades working together, the two sometimes had disagreements; but underneath any conflicts lay the fact that there was an intense brotherly love between the two men. Had this not been the case, it is unlikely that Walt could have gotten along with anyone who was in charge of the money side of the business for very long. Roy was thinking about retiring in the mid-1960s, but when Walt died on December 15, 1966, his work doubled instead. He was determined to see that his brothers dream of Disney World --renamed Walt Disney World -- become a reality. The Park opened in October, 1971. Less than three months later, Roy died.
