Burbank Studio -With the
profits from "Snow
White and the Seven Dwarfs," Walt Disney was
able to purchase land and build a whole new
studio devoted to the production of his films.
Differing from the concrete and asphalt of many
movie studios, the Disney Studio had green
lawns, trees, and flowers, a spacious
commissary, a gymnasium, a baseball field, and
other amenities to provide an attractive and
inspiring workplace for the artists. While the
initial buildings were state-of-the-art for
animation production, there was enough land
when the company decided to expand into live
action production to build sound stages, backlot
sets, and other support facilities. The Studio on
Buena Vista Street has remained the Disney
company's corporate headquarters from 1940
to the present.
