Barks, Carl (b. 1901) - Starting
out as a
Disney inbetweener and storyman on the Donald
Duck cartoons, Carl soon found his niche, as an
artist for the comic books starring Donald and
his cohorts. Teaming with Jack Hannah, he did
his first one, "Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold,"
in 1942, and then continued writing and drawing
them for almost a quarter century. Even before
his name was known, kids referred to him as
"the good artist," but in retirement he was
"discovered," and has ever since, spry into his
90s, had a loyal following of adoring fans. One
of Carl's main claims to fame was the creation of
Uncle Scrooge for a 1947 comic book story.
