Backgrounds - The background
artist for an
animated film paints a background scene over
which the characters will move. Taking a design
created by a layout artist, he works with the
director and animators to select a color scheme
that will work best. Cels were then laid over the
background, and photographed one at a time,
with the same background often used for a
number of cels. Today, backgrounds are
scanned into a computer for combining with the
characters.
