Babbitt, Art (1907-1992)
- Known for his
specialization (the animation of Goofy), Art had
started at the Studio in the early 1930s. His
early work on Goofy helped define the
character, and Art was called upon to write the
character's personality outline for a handbook
utilized by the animators. It was the art classes
that Art was holding in his own home for fellow
animators that caught Walt's attention, and soon
the Studio had its own art classes, many taught
by teachers from the nearby Chouinard Art
Institute. After important animation on such
characters as the mushrooms in "Fantasia" and the
Queen in "Snow White," Art left the Studio as one
of the leaders of the bitter 1941 strike.
