WELCOME

From the Desk of Paul Yanover, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Disney Online:

The debut of the new Disney.com has created an exciting few months here at Disney Online. Through partnerships with business units across The Walt Disney Company, we have been able to create a site that has given Guests an extraordinary and personalized experience. I would like to share a few of our successes with you.:
    Disney.com Homepage
  • Since the January launch of DisneyFaries.com Guests have created over 2 million personalized fairies.
  • This personalization extends into Disney.com XD, where Guests are invited to make their own channels. Through Disney.com XD, we have given them a world where they can take an unprecedented level of ownership over their online experiences. We have seen almost 500,000 guest channels already.
  • On May 1, a 9 minute exclusive clip of "Ratatouille" hit Disney.com with a bang. This was an extraordinary cross-media stunt with Buena Vista Pictures Marketing that included a 24 hour roadblock on the Home Page. This sent Guests in droves to watch an exclusive segment of the upcoming DisneyPixar film. The Disney.com home page saw a 17.9% increase in page views, 19.9% increase in uniques, and 23% increase in average time spent on that date.
  • Disney.com will have the world premiere of the brand new music video "You are the Music in Me" from High School Musical 2. It will debut on Disney.com starting July 12th -- the day before it airs on the Disney Channel. This is just the start of Disney.com's road to High School Musical 2; we'll be premiering interstitial clips from the new movie throughout August, and will be pushing guests towards Radio Disney for more HSM action. We are very excited about this great content and look forward to a summer filled with amazing High School Musical highlights from our business partners on Disney.com
  • Congratulations to Walt Disney Records for scoring the #1 album in the country with Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus. Disney.com is happy to continue our support of Hannah/Miley throughout the summer with debut music videos and much more great content.
Below you'll find brief updates from many of our business units, letting you know what's happening now. I look forward to reporting on these and many other enhancements in the coming months.

TRAFFIC UPDATE

  • Since launch (as of 5/13) the Disney.com Network is averaging more than 6 million unique visitors and approximately 41 million page views a week.
  • Compared to prior to launch, the rate of new registration on Disney.com has increased 12-fold
  • Disney.com XD has reached record levels with weekly unique visitors approaching 2 MM -- and has racked up 470,510 member created channels as of 6/28.

VERSION 2

All of our teams are hard at work to bring new enhancements and improvements to Disney.com. Most of these changes are not guest-facing, but have gone a long way to improve our ability to update the site and react swiftly to changing business priorities.

The production and technology teams at DOL have worked up a list of V2 enhancements that are being tackled in 3 week cycles and published to the live site. Some of the highlights coming down the pike over the next couple months include:
  • Video Player - We have a list of enhancements we will roll out on the site wide video player, including: making the video clickable (already live), support deep linking, send to a friend, auto scroll with the playlist and other changes to make our Guests interaction with our video even better.
  • Hitbox & Search - We are tackling both our internal search experience and our hitbox tracking system so we can get our Guests to the content they want easier, and allow us to learn more from their behavior.
    • Search: Redesigning the results page, and we recently eliminated paid search results.
    • Tracking: Implementing an asset level tracking system and new reporting approaches that include active segments and heat mapping.
Additionally, the DOL team is looking into a potential new analytics solution, as part of a corporate wide examination of what's available in the marketplace. A decision will be made in the coming weeks.
  • Registration - We want our Guests to learn the value of registering with us -- to that end we will add sign prompts on the homepage, persistent messaging throughout the site letting you know you are signed in and the ability for us to remember and acknowledge returning Guests. We will also be rolling out Platinum registration across our network. These are the first steps in our journey to make Disney.com a unique experience for each of our Guests by allowing them to customize what they see and do.
  • Homepage Character Carousel - Taking the character carrousel to the next level we will be updating the interface for a better user experience and make it simpler for us to update it and expand it as we need. Additionally we are looking into ways to introduce customization into the carousel usage, adding another personal experience to the site
This is just the beginning of the evolution of our site -- even further down the line look for us to build out more customization and expansion of our segment pages.

DISNEY.COM XD EXPANDS

Disney XD Disney.com XD continues to expand and bring our Guests an immersive broadband experience. Since launch in February, we've rolled out new features allowing Guests more opportunities for customization and community, all in a family-friendly environment with full parental controls and safety features.

Create Your Own Channel
The biggest addition to Disney.com XD has been giving Guests the ability to experience Disney.com their way by creating their own Disney.com XD channels! Guests just need to log in to Disney.com XD and start saving their favorite videos, games, songs, and gadgets. Then they pick a fun name plus a cool background theme for their channel and program it with all the content they've collected. Once they're done, other Guests can visit the channel and leave messages through a virtual sticker system. This new feature kicked off May 1st with a New York press event introducing Corbin Bleu as the first Disney star to create his own DXD channel.

The Network Grows
During the last month, working with our business unit partners, we've expanded the Disney.com XD network with numerous new channels and content supporting Disney properties such as Ratatouille, High School Musical 2, Wonderful World of Disney, and Toon Disney. We're also hosting fun events for the Disney.com XD community to participate in this summer, including:
  • Underdog - Did you vote in the Underdog Super Pet Contest? Look for their top super pet pick on the red carpet at the Underdog premiere later this summer.
  • Disney Channel Games - Want to re-watch the Opening Ceremonies? How about get the scoop on your favorite team? Visit Disney.com XD for tons of Disney Channel Games video, as well as official team channels. We're also rolling out fan "souvenirs" kids can use to create their own Disney.com XD member channels devoted to their favorite team.
  • D*Concert - Working with Disney Channel, Disney Records and Buena Vista Home Entertainment, we're bringing Guests not one but two D*Concert online events this July. Rock out to the Cheetah Girls the week of July 9th and Hannah Montana starting July 16th!

DISNEY.COM MARKETING

This summer the new Disney.com will be the star of a mass media advertising campaign including TV, print, radio and online. The creative will target tweens and families and will start in late July and continue through the end of summer.

Disney.com is also being featured during the opening of ABC's Wonderful World of Disney movies, which began airing on June 16th and will run for eight consecutive Saturday nights. Disney.com will also feature a Wonderful World of Disney page that brings together everything covered in each show.

In addition, the DOL marketing team is identifying opportunities to partner with business units around the company to sustain awareness for both Disney.com and other Walt Disney Company key priorities through event driven promotions during the remainder of FY07 and throughout FY08.

Please contact the SOC at 866-DIG-HELP (1-866-344-4357) any time you notice a live-site issue and/or cannot reach your DOL Producer or Account Manager. A live-site issue can be anything from a full site being down to a job not deploying properly to the live site via Go Publish. Please do NOT call your local IT department/Help Desk representative if you see a live-site outage or problem. They have no insight into WDIG Web sites or the SOC.

A ticket and an action report are opened for all calls to 866-DIG-HELP, which allow us to track the issue, know who it is assigned to for a fix, and create an archive of learning for future use.
