Todo : Nice text : This page is a technical demo. I will use any appearance provided. The appearance of the tool on this page is under limited control, but if the deicision was made to use it then it should be easy to reskin it.

There are a number of good packages to do wysiwyg content entry, but looking around I like this one: Cross-Browser Rich Text Editor (RTE). It seems it is probably what offtopic.com is using at lower levels.

I like:

• The fairly open license if, which will allow use, modification or and reverse engineering. Entirely possible to but the source code (cheap at $50) and reskin it with your own images.
• He charges for his raw source code (relatively little) but makes compressed code available for free, showing he is not afraid to have his work tested before purchase.
• Looks like it is used by big sites.
• It tries to be cross browser (still need to test cross browser, but that is what this page is for).
• There is a support forum, it appears he monitors it. There are bug fixes, and the product is already fairly mature.
• You can use more than one in a page, and it does not seem to have ambiguious names likely to conflict.
• The rest of his site supports my impression he is a serious programmer, putting out stuff people use.
• It seems to me Kevin Roth's real income must come from some kind of engineering, so if you wanted a re-skinned form it should be an option to have him do it and support it if you wanted.

• The way it shows every tool at once. I would use drop lists for related tools which don't see much use.
• The way it will not support its allowed text options (bold, italic, etc) in cut and paste text.
• Link/Image/Special Character/Table adding uses a popup window, rather than div. This causes problems for people with blocking on.
• Color palette does not close if ignored.
